Newcastle United are in the race for 26-year-old Nottingham Forest attacker Joe Lolley alongside fellow Premier League club Fulham, according to the Daily Mirror.

The national newspaper’s live transfer blog (Thursday November 29th, 16:42) stated that the Magpies and the Cottagers were weighing up whether to make a January bid for the winger who has been in fantastic form this season.

The Daily Mirror reported that Forest will want to keep a hold of Lolley after signing him last January, but noted that the Championship side stretched their budget in the summer by spending £25million on new players.

The Magpies have come face to face with the 26-year-old this season as he was a part of the Forest team that defeated Rafa Benitez’s side 3-1 in the EFL Cup earlier this season.

OPINION

Lolley made a positive impact for Forest during their shock win over the Magpies this season and would be a great signing to make. The 26-year-old was previously at Huddersfield Town, where he made six Premier League appearances, and could be keen on a swift return to England’s top-flight. Benitez desperately needs to boost his side’s firepower in January any way he can and a swoop for Lolley would certainly do that. Hopefully the Magpies see through their interest in the player as it would be a promising signing to make. Given that Forest went wild in the transfer market in January then there may be a way for the Magpies to steal him away from the Championship outfit. However it’s worth noting that Fulham are also in for Lolley and they showed in the summer, that they weren’t afraid to splash a ridiculously amount of cash on getting the players they wanted. The attacker has scored seven, while creating seven, in his 23 outings so the London club are bound to be keen on him.
