The atmosphere at St James’ Park was electric after striker Salomon Rondon fired a bullet header past the Bournemouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic to grab his second goal on Saturday.

That goal all but sealed the victory for the Magpies, and supporters we no doubt in dreamland after a second successive win – and that is all down to Rondon.

The on-loan forward has finally proven why Rafa Benitez chose to bring him to the club, and Premier League safety seems all but assured if he continues in the way that he is.

This is why United must twist West Brom’s arm in order to sign the in-form ace on a permanent basis when his temporary deal expires in the summer.

It is likely that the Baggies will want Rondon to return if he maintains his eye for goal, and Benitez needs to pull out all of the stops to ensure that this is not the case.

Even though reliable journalist Mark Douglas previously stated that a permanent deal for Rondon is unlikely to materialise in the summer, there is no reason why Newcastle cannot make any strides towards making him a long-term player at the club.

The top-brass at Toon will have been impressed by his latest exploits and they will undoubtedly want to do a deal for the attacker if he continues to make such an impact on the team.

Newcastle have been waiting this season for a striker to unleash his eye for goal, so they would be mad to let all of that go next year.

Signing Rondon is of the utmost priority for Benitez, and he would seriously regret it if he let Rondon slip through the net after the leaps and bounds his has already made this season.

It’s over to you now Rafa.
