Newcastle United must make Rafa Benitez’s job easier as manager by snatching Swansea City defender Connor Roberts.

The 23-year-old right-back has impressed in the 17 appearances he has made this season for the Swans in the Championship and has even shone while playing for Wales.

Roberts is one of the Championship’s gems as it’s clear he has a ton of potential and could easily step up to play in the Premier League in the near future.

While Swansea no doubt would love to hold onto Roberts for the foreseeable future, his contract is currently set to expire in the summer.

Swans boss Graham Potter previously revealed that the 23-year-old, who can play left-back as well as right-back, was close to penning a new deal but until one is signed then he is fair gain.

“As far as I know it is going well and not too far away,” said Potter, as quoted by Wales Online.

“It’s crossing the Ts and dotting the Is. You don’t want to discuss too much publicly as some happen quickly and others not as they have to know it is right for them and their families.”

As it stands Roberts is currently on course to be a summer bargain as he could potentially be snapped up for free and that’s insane given his ability as well as his potential.

The Magpies must look to sign the talented full-back as his arrival would cure a headache that Benitez has been dealing with for a while considering his squad.

The Spanish manager has struggled for talented players on both flanks of his defence, especially when first-choice options are missing, but with Roberts in his squad then he will no longer have to worry.

Roberts is not only capable of being cover at left-back and right-back, but he has the potential to establish himself as a member of the Magpies’ first-team if given an opportunity.

Therefore the Magpies must raid the Swans for their talented 23-year-old defender especially if he ends up costing nothing in the summer.
