Rafa Benitez must swiftly axe Newcastle United midfielder Mohamed Diame as his displays this season resemble famous story Jekyll & Hyde at this point.

The 31-year-old midfielder has been an inconsistent force across all of his eight appearances this season with his performance against Manchester United on Saturday definitely being a tale of two halves.

Diame started the game in fantastic fashion, much like a lot of his teammates, as he seemed fired up and able to run the midfield for the Magpies.

The veteran performer’s passing was on point, he seemed to be first to the ball more often then not and even won his fair share of tackles.

However Diame’s performance quickly transformed for the worse as he then appeared to be clueless about what he was meant to be doing in the game.

The central midfielder was no longer charging down every loose ball he could, his passes were now wild and he was simply being brushed aside by Man United in the middle of the park.

This Jekyll & Hyde-esque performance by Diame actually contributed to the Magpies seeing their game with Man United completely turned on his head, as they ended up losing 3-2, despite having a 2-0 at one stage.

The midfielder has been this inconsistent in the majority of his displays this season, as he seems to be able to go from a  great performance to an absolutely unacceptable one at the drop of a dime, as he did it during the 2-0 to Arsenal earlier in this campaign as well.

Given that Diame’s inconsistency makes him an unreliable presence and a liability in the heart of the Magpies’ team then Benitez must swiftly axe him from his plans, in order to finally get that first win on the board.
