Newcastle United must reignite their reported summer pursuit of Manchester City winger Oleksandr Zinchenko as he is exactly the type of player they needed.

Freelance journalist Tim Nash reported via his Twitter account in July that the Magpies were in the hunt for the versatile 21-year-old player and they should look to reignite their reported desire for him in January.

Zinchenko can play in a variety of positions including as a left-back or as a left-winger and given their two areas the Magpies need improving in then they should try their luck by swooping for the Manchester City dazzler.

The 21-year-old has dazzling skills, tricky feet and he has respectable pace that could see him be an attacking outlet down the Magpies’ flank so it makes sense for Rafa Benitez to add him to his squad, especially when he needs to improve his side’s goal threat.

Also as Zinchenko can play left-back then he can act as cover for current first-choice Paul Dummett as then Benitez won’t have to constantly sweat about the Wales international staying fit.

It’s very possible that Man City could let Zinchenko go in January as they previously agree to sell him to Wolves for £16million, as reported by Sky Sports, ahead of the player snubbing the move.

Given that the player has continued to be starved of chances at Man City, he has appeared twice this season, then he will probably be more open to leave last season’s Premier League champions.

While the Magpies would have to spend big, at least for them, to get Zinchenko by potentially paying £16million for him, given that he can play multiple positions to a high standard than even Mike Ashley might sanction his swoop.

Therefore given that the 21-year-old is still wasting away at his current side, then the Magpies at the very least have to attempt to lure him to St James Park in January.
