Newcastle United must sign Celtic playmaker Tom Rogic as he could be an affordable option to help the club be amongst the goals from January.

The 25-year-old attacking midfielder has already registered four assists, as well as scored two, in his eight league outings for the Hoops this season and could really be the creative spark needed in the Magpies midfield.

While Rafa Benitez has Jonjo Shelvey to call upon, he can’t do it all by himself and could do with a new teammate who could help him create chance after chance that even the Magpies’ current forward line wouldn’t be able to miss.

A further testament to Rogic’s talent and potential comes from the fact that former Magpies manager Kenny Daglish claimed that he was transforming into one of the finest players in the United Kingdom for his position.

“Tom Rogic missed the midweek game and I’m sure Brendan Rodgers didn’t want to risk him as he is such an important player,” wrote Dalglish in his column for The Sunday Post.

“He is maturing into one of the finest players in the UK in the role he plays just off the main striker.”

The 25-year-old clearly has the tools to aid the Magpies’ cause for goals and would cost significantly less then pursuing a player in the Premier League.

Celtic previously sold the likes of Victor Wanyama for £12.5million (Source: Daily Record) and Virgil van Dijk for £13million (Source: The Scottish Sun) and both player’s price tags would have been higher if they were playing in England at that time.

Given that Mike Ashley will no doubt be reluctant, as always, to spend the cash in January then pursuing a capable player like Rogic, whose price tag won’t cause him a fright, seems like a smart move.

Therefore the Magpies must sign the Celtic playmaker in January in order to help their cause and witness him fulfil Dalglish’s prediction about his potential.
