A number of Newcastle United supporters have been raving about the performance of youngster Elias Sorensen for the U-23’s against Fulham U-23’s on Monday.
The 19-year-old produced a scintillating display against the Cottagers, scoring a hat trick as the Magpies ran out deserved 5-2 winners.
Unsurprisingly, the Newcastle fans have been reacting with delight to his performance, with many of them lobbying on social media for the Dane to be promoted to the first team set up.

throw him in against Man United! Can't be any worse than our current first team strikers and he'll be keen to impress!

OPINION
It’s no surprise that the Newcastle supporters have gone wild for Sorensen’s performance considering the first team’s current struggles. The calls for him to be promoted to the first team were inevitable once that final hat-trick goal went in, especially considering the lack of production from the first team’s frontmen. Salomon Rondon, Joselu and Yoshinori Muto have all underwhelmed to varying degrees this season, so it’s logical for the Magpies fans to want to see the young lad rewarded with a step up to the first team. It’s obvious that the team’s current strikers are struggling so it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world for Rafael Benitez to give the youngster a look. Obviously you don’t want to put too much pressure on the young man too soon, he is just 19 years of age after all, but when the first team are doing so poorly it’s to be expected that high-performing youngsters will be held up as candidates for Benitez’s squad.
