Matt Le Tissier expressed his concern about Newcastle United’s potential transfer dealings in January and shared that they may be too far behind in the Premier League to risk spending money.

The Sky Sports pundit, who was assigned the Magpies’ clash with Brighton for Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday, shared that if the Magpies continued playing the way they were leading up to the winter market opening, then money might not be spent.

“I would of said so (when asked whether the January transfer window is set to be one of the most important in the club’s history) it is a real struggle for them at the moment, scoring goals is a real problem for them at the moment,” said Le Tissier on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday (Sky Sports Main Event, Saturday October 21, 17:23).

“I think if they get to January continuing to play like this, then there might not be any money available as they might be too far behind to try to risk throwing any money at it.

“Because at the moment two points from a couple of 0-0s is nowhere near good enough for a club like Newcastle at the moment.”

The assessment by the Sky pundit is both logical as well as worrying and should see the alarm bells ring at the Magpies ring sooner rather than later.

While Mike Ashley is likely to open his wallet to attempt to save the Magpies from relegation in the January window, he won’t do it if their fate looks already sealed.

Le Tissier is spot-on that it may be too financially risky to splash the cash when everyone at the club knows another season in the Championship beckons.

The pundit’s remarks on January transfers should see those at the club realise that points are needed now and the January window opening might not change their fortunes.

The Magpies were significantly better against Brighton on Saturday then in previous displays, but at the end of the day their lack of a lethal finisher saw them leave St James Park with zero points gained as Brighton won 1-0.

Also even in the scenario that the Magpies do risk spending significant money in January, there’s no guarantee the players arriving will be able to save the club, even if they are still looking worse for wear in the coming months.

The arrival of Kenedy and Martin Dubravka made a difference in the last January window but then who knows, maybe the club will end up making more signings that reflect the success of Islam Slimani’s recruitment.

The forward who arrived at the start of the year on loan, made little to no impact and showed that not every signing is a guaranteed success story.

Therefore following Le Tissier’s decision to express his concerns about the January transfer window as far as the Magpies are concerned, alarm bells should sound around St James Park as his assessment of the situation is very logical.
