Some Newcastle United fans took to social media in order to react to Rolando Aarons joining FC Slovan Liberec on loan for six-months.

The Magpies confirmed that the pacey 22-year-old winger had sealed a loan exit from the club, via a brief statement on their website, in order to feature for the club currently sat eighth in the Czech’s top flight.

The choice of club took a few Magpies fans by surprise but one pointed out that perhaps FC Slovan Liberec were guaranteeing handing him a lot of playing time unlike other sides who may have been interested.

Aarons joined the Magpies’ youth set-up from Bristol City in 2012 before breaking into the first-team and is contracted to stay at St James Park until 2021.

OPINION

As one fan rightly states, what a fall from grace this feels like for the once promising looking winger. The speedster once had St James Park buzzing about his potential as he emerged from the club’s academy in order to feature for the first-team, which seems hard to do at the Magpies in recent season. Yet after making an instant impression after playing 27 times for the senior team, he fell out of favour and hasn’t fulfilled much of the potential he looked like having. While some supporters may be dubious about the benefits of the 22-year-old joining a side in the Czech top flight as one fan pointed out it’s better than he rotting away in the Magpies’ reserves. It also seems that while Aarons clearly hasn’t kicked on a handful of fans are still holding out hope that it all works out for him, with one even claiming that despite his progress stalling, he’s still better than Christian Atsu.
