Newcastle United defender Achraf Lazaar is reportedly closing in on a move to Serie A side Genoa, and some fans have taken to Twitter to slam the club for letting him leave amid defensive injury issues.
As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, the Italian top-flight club have identified the Morocco international flyer as a potential replacement for Diego Laxalt, who is set to join AC Milan.
Some Newcastle fans have now taken to Twitter to question the club’s decision to let Lazaar leave amid a full-back injury crisis after DeAndre Yedlin left St. James’ Park on crutches after their opening loss to Tottenham on Saturday.

OPINION
These fans are obviously angry at the club for allowing Lazaar to leave despite the lack of cover for Yedlin, and that is totally understandable. The other options for Benitez at right-back currently are Javier Manquillo and academy star Jamie Sterry, and that is slightly worrying with the season having only just begun. While Lazaar is a natural left-back, the club are also lacking much depth in that position too, with Paul Dummett currently their only real option. If something were to happen to Dummett then Benitez would be embroiled in a serious injury crisis, and allowing Lazaar to leave may indeed come back to bite him. However, these fans have also seemingly forgotten how poor Lazaar has been during his time at the club, and the decision by Benitez to let him leave has obviously been made long ago. Benitez is obviously comfortable with giving youngsters a chance should that situation arise.
Never thought I’d say this but we kinda need him! Selling leaves us so short on fullbacks that it would be unprofessional and unwise

We have no left back cover … so we sell a left back

@lee_ryder in all seriousness with no left back cover how can we afford to offload lazaar?

If Lazaar goes and Yedlin’s injury is serious, we won’t have full back cover. He needs to improve considerably but given our shortcomings in the window, probably shouldn’t be allowed to leave. https://t.co/yIzA0VkbNg
