Some Newcastle United fans could not help but crack jokes after Rafa Benitez’s latest press conference was interrupted by two stray dogs barking.

Sky Sports correspondent Keith Downie who attended the Magpies manager’s press conference shared via his personal Twitter account that Benitez responded to two dogs interrupting him by asking if the duo were “big enough to get a game.”

Daily Mail reporter Craig Hope who was also attending Benitez’s conference ahead of the Magpies’ game against Tottenham on Saturday stated on his personal Twitter account that the manager confirmed that the dogs weren’t new signings.

Several Magpies fans responded to this amusing moment on Twitter with one asking if either dog was able to play left-back.

OPINION

Well at least Magpies fans and Benitez haven’t lost their sense of humour following another disappointing transfer window for the club. Several supporters made very amusing jokes by suggesting the dogs were called ‘Alsatian Shearer’ or ‘Jordy Lassie’ and were happen to jest about the bizarre situation. However as one fan referred to by asking whether the pedigree pals can play left-back, supporters are no doubt concerned that more new recruits weren’t brought to the club this summer, especially when it comes to position of left-back. Paul Dummett is the club’s current first-choice and doesn’t really have any worthwhile competition when it comes to holding down a place in Benitez’s starting line-up. While Javier Manquillo is capable of playing left-back of right-back for the Magpies, his terrible performances last season suggest that he is not good enough to play in the Premier League. If Dummett gets injured in the first-half of the season and the Spanish footballer has to be relied upon then the Magpies will look vulnerable down their left-flank.
