Some Newcastle fans have been raving over manager Rafael Benitez after comments he made in the club’s pre-match press conference.

The Spanish manager has had a frustrating spell at Magpies manager and struggled to get the signings he wanted this summer.

However, the club did manage to get eight new signings over the line before the window closed, including Salomon Rondon and Federico Fernandez.

As reported by trusted Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder on his official Twitter account, Benitez revealed that he doesn’t want to leave the club, with the former Liverpool manager’s contract with the Toon expires next summer..

One Toon fan said Benitez is an absolute hero.

Nothing but Newcastle have rounded up the best tweets from a section of Newcastle fans on Benitez’s comments:

OPINION

These Newcastle fans obviously love Toon manager Rafael Benitez, he is a top manager who has managed some of the biggest clubs in European football including Liverpool, Napoli, Real Madrid and Valencia, if he’s backed in the transfer market then there’s no limit to what he can achieve at St. James Park. The fans will not want him to leave but with just 12 months left on his contract and the club still in a poor state on the playing side of things, you get the feeling he may well walk away at the end of this season if things don’t change. If he does stay, it would be a massive surprise and it would indicate that the owner Mike Ashley will finally start putting his money were his mouth is and pull off some ambitious signings to move the club forwards. Right now though, that looks like a slim possibility, with the Magpies even finishing the window with a positive net spend. Unfortunately, it seems like the owner is content for the club to just survive, which won’t match the ambitions of Benitez.
