Newcastle United have not made any bid or approach to sign Liverpool striker Danny Ings, according to reliable journalist Lee Ryder.

Ryder, who is the Chronicle’s chief Newcastle writer, has claimed on his personal Twitter account that the Magpies have not made any advances to sign the 26-year-old from Liverpool, with attention focused on signing forward Salomon Rondon over the weekend.

The Winchester-born frontman only made eight appearances in the Premier League during the 2017/2018 campaign, and looks likely to exit Anfield after falling down the pecking order.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool are holding out for £20million for the 26-year-old forward.

OPINION

It does not come as a surprise that Newcastle have not made any approaches for Ings, as they have been largely concentrating on bring Rondon to the club. Rondon is the priority at the moment, as boss Rafa Benitez is set on bringing a striker in before the transfer window shuts on Thursday (9 August). However, it remains to be seen whether United make a bid for Ings after trying to complete the proposed move for the Championship forward – and this means Benitez needs to decide whether he needs to add yet another striker to his ranks. At the moment, they could do with adding one more, and Ings fits the bill perfectly if they are able to afford him. Liverpool seem to want him gone, and they may accept a lower offer for him in the last days of the window in order to cash in. With deadline day fast approaching, it is hard to know what Newcastle’s next move will be.
