Stuart Pearce shared that he thought Newcastle winger Kenedy had a very poor game against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.

The 56-year-old who regularly appears on Sky Sports’ The Debate and featured during the broadcaster coverage of the Magpies’ latest game highlighted Kenedy’s latest performance when giving his opinion on the game.

Pearce shared that he thought Kenedy in particular was very poor and that the 22-year-old also struggled against Cardiff City when the sides played each other recently.

“They were just a little short of punch to be quite honest with ya, ” said the Sky Sports pundit on talkSPORT, (Thursday August 30, 10:23am).

“No goal threat really, I thought Kenedy was very poor and I think he had a poor game against Cardiff a couple of weeks ago as he missed a penalty and I think he had a poor game again.

“I can’t take anything way from Forest but from Newcastle’s point of view, they were probably the only major upset of this round and normally I get a few more upsets.

“But I’m not sure I’d call it an upset to be honest with ya when I went into the game I thought it was even stevens before the game.”

OPINION

The Magpies slumped to a 3-1 defeat during the League Cup against Forest and several players deserve to be criticised  for their latest outings. Pearce is right to point out Kenedy’s poor performance ahead of any of his teammate’s woeful display not because it was one of the worst but due to how he struggled in his last outing too. The left-sided winger had nightmare against Cardiff and Benitez probably opted to deploy the winger in the League Cup in order for him to get his form back on track. However that wasn’t the case as Kenedy was awful at both ends of the pitch and it’s worrying that he was ever considered a viable option to play at left-back. The Brazilian was easily passed by Sam Bryam in the opening minutes of Wednesday’s game and it didn’t get better from there. Kenedy was wasteful in possession and on multiple occasions gave the ball away due to make poor decisions. Hopefully this is just a blip for the winger and that he soon will rediscover the form that saw him become a popular figure at St James Park when on loan at the club last season.
