Some Newcastle fans have been reacting with anger after the club reportedly agreed a fee for Swansea defender Federico Fernandez.
The Sun reported via their official Twitter account that the Toon have agreed a fee for the Welsh club for the central defender.

According to the report, the fee that has been agreed for the Argentine is reported to be £6million.
It is understood that central defender had been a target for Magpies manager Rafael Benitez for weeks after the injury to key defender Florian Lejeune.
One Toon fan said Fernandez is just a last-ditch desperate signing if he does complete his move.
Nothing but Newcastle have rounded up the best tweets from a section of Newcastle fans on reports of a fee being agreed for Fernandez:
Just to clarify, if any non-#NUFC fan out there is thinking that signing relegated Federico Fernandez from Swansea represents 'a good signing' or 'Benitez getting what he wants', you are horribly, horribly wrong. It is a desperation, last-ditch, nobody-else-available signing.

Tbh have never been a fan of Fernandez but under Rafa, PL experience, fingers crossed he can offer something. We desperately needed bodies so can’t complain. #nufc

We’ve just sold Mbemba for £6m… & now bought an older, not as good imo, Fernandez; for £6m?
Our squad is getting worse under this penny-pinching, zero-ambition regime
£22m profit when Rafa was promised ‘every penny’ to improve the squad 🙈#nufc #DeadlineDay— Harry Phipps-Clark (@PhippsClark) August 9, 2018

OPINION
The Newcastle fans obviously aren’t massive fans of Fernandez, he’s not the exciting signing that the Toon fans were hoping for but this purchase was essential in order to give them cover in the defence ahead of next season. Whether he has the quality that Rafael Benitez needs is to be determined by his performances on the pitch, but he was a capable performer at his previous club Swansea and has good Premier League experience. This looks like it may be the only deal that will happen before the transfer window shuts and even this isn’t 100% guaranteed, so the Magpies fans will only get angrier as the transfer window draws to a close.
