Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has seen his prayers answered, as the Magpies hierarchy have agreed to sanction three new signings, according to the Chronicle.

The newspaper reports that the Spaniard’s request for new players, issued in a fiery press conference after the club’s 4-0 friendly defeat to Braga, has been granted.

Benitez must continue to work within the club’s tight financial framework, but he is expected to get a striker, a left back and a centre half in to St James’s Park before the transfer deadline next Thursday.

The Chronicle’s report states that Paris Saint-Germian’s Stanley N’Soki remains of interest to the club, while Salomon Rondon’s long-awaited move from West Brom is expected to be completed soon.

OPINION

Finally some welcome respite for Rafael Benitez and Newcastle fans. It must feel like it’s been a very long summer on Tyneside, but there now appears to be some light at the end of the tunnel at St James’s Park. Three new arrivals is probably more than Magpies fans could have hoped for at this stage of the window, and they should go a long way towards helping the team this season. Full back has been an area of need all summer, while Florian Lejeune’s injury has deprived Benitez of a ball playing centre half. Up front, there appears to be some movement happening at last. Yoshinori Muto is now officially on board, while the Rondon deal appears to be close at last. If Rafa is able to successfully plug these three holes in the squad, then Newcastle may be able to match or possibly exceed last year’s tenth place finish. There hasn’t been a lot of good news on Tyneside of late, but this certainly qualifies.
