Some Newcastle fans on social media opted to slam defender Paul Dummett for his display during his side’s 1-0 defeat to Augsburg on Saturday.
The 26-year-old left-back played the full 90 minutes of the Magpies’ latest pre-season friendly and a section of supporters were left very unimpressed by his performance.
One Magpies fan stated that Dummett was playing like he was a few years ago and that wasn’t a good thing while another boldly claimed he was the most limited one dimensional player he had ever seen.

OPINION
Hopefully Dummett is simply using his pre-season to get all his bad displays out of the way as Rafa Benitez cannot afford for him not to be at his best in the upcoming campaign. The 26-year-old is head and shoulders above the other options the manager could play at left-back currently and unless a new face arrives before transfer deadline day that isn’t going to change. Dummett has become one of the Magpies’ most consistently good performers in his latest campaigns and when he was injured last season for a period, he was a very noticeable miss. However based on these fans’ reaction to his latest display, it sounds like he is in worrying form ahead of the new season.
