Newcastle United have been informed by Chelsea that they will have to pay a hefty premium for exclusive rights to negotiate a permanent deal for Kenedy next summer, according to the Northern Echo.

The regional newspaper report that the Magpies are trying to strike a loan return for the 22-year-old and talks have progressed well in recent days, with the deal potentially including an option to buy in 12 months time.

The Echo claim however that Chelsea are insistent a premium must be paid for the club to have first refusal on a deal next summer, with the Magpies having to agree a £30million fee now if they want exclusive access to an agreement.

It is said that if the club do not agree to this price, then Kenedy will be put on the open market instead.

Good move for Newcastle United?

A loan return for Kenedy this summer is a no-brainer for Newcastle, but the club must think carefully about the terms of the deal regarding next summer.

Obviously they will want exclusive access to a permanent deal, but £30million is a huge price to agree to at this point, and the club will have a big decision to make in the coming days.

It may be worth it to risk Kenedy going on the open market next summer, with there remaining a possibility he will choose to stay at the club.

However, if the Brazilian flyer has a good season in 2018/19, then there will be plenty of big-name suitors, and Newcastle would then find it hard to keep him around.

Likely to happen?

It looks like the Magpies are progressing well in talks over a loan deal, so that is now seemingly likely to happen.

It remains to be seen whether they agree to this £30million fee next summer, and discussions will no doubt be going on between club bosses to determine their next move.
