Newcastle United have reportedly ruled out a move for Everton defender Leighton Baines as they cannot afford his wages, and some fans have taken to Twitter to react angrily to the claim.
As reported by the Chronicle, the club have dismissed the prospect of signing the 33-year-old after deeming his wage demands too high.
Many fans have now taken to Twitter to react to the report, with fans seemingly rubbishing the claim that the club cannot afford his wages, and claiming that they are merely choosing not to.
Nothing but Newcastle have rounded up some of the best tweets:
Cannot afford makes it sound like we have no choice. We can afford, we choose not to, very different

Not accurate. They’re choosing not to meet his wage demands. Big difference.

These windows just heap embarrassment on the club
— Lee Palmer (@lpalmer87) July 30, 2018
OPINION
These fans seem pretty unanimous in their criticism of the club and their unwillingness to spend. However, this does not seem to be specifically to do with Baines but generally regarding the window so far, which has disappointed many fans. The club hierarchy have shown a huge lack of ambition throughout the summer so far, despite there being a clear platform to work with following their tenth-placed finish last season. The creation of the #IfRafaGoesWeGo movement really shows how frustrated these fans are becoming with the situation, and it would not be a surprise to see it all come to a head very soon.
