Huddersfield Town have pinpointed Newcastle winger Christian Atsu as a transfer target in the final ten days of the summer window, according to Ghana Soccernet.

The news outlet report that the Terriers are weighing up a bid for the Ghana international, with manager David Wagner a huge fan of the speed demon.

Ghana Soccernet also claim that Atsu’s place in Newcastle’s side may be under threat amid the ‘imminent arrival’ of Anthony Limbombe from Club Brugge.

OPINION

It is not a surprise to hear that Huddersfield are interested in Atsu, with the winger looking like he could to go on and become a solid Premier League player if he avoids more injury issues. However, the claim here that Atsu’s place at Newcastle is under threat seems slightly farfetched, with there being no suggestion that Limbombe’s arrival is ‘imminent’. Yes, the club have shown interest in the Belgian forward in the past, and have been recently linked with a swoop once again, but to claim his arrival is imminent seems to be jumping the gun a bit. And, even if Limbombe was to arrive, there is no suggestion that Atsu’s place would be under threat immediately, with Rafa Benitez known to be a big fan of the 26-year-old. All in all this story seems to be slightly fanciful, although Huddersfield may end up making a bid for Atsu before the window shuts on the 9th of August.
