Newcastle are expected to unveil young Swiss wonderkid Yannick Toure when the Under-23s reconvene this week, according to The Chronicle.
The Chronicle claims that Toure, 17, spent time with the Newcastle academy last season, and will join Newcastle now that his contract with Young Boys Berne has expired.
The report states that Newcastle will have to pay compensation for the young striker who was spotted by head of recruitment Steve Nickson.
OPINION
Newcastle are in desperate need of a senior striker, but Toure could well be the face for the future. He’s a highly-regarded youngster who was spotted after scoring 23 goals in 23 games for Young Boys Berne in the Swiss Under-18 Elite League last season. He earned himself a trial at Newcastle and now he’s set to be unveiled as one of the new faces in the Under-23 set-up, after a major overhaul saw loads of players leave in March. The 6ft 1 striker, who can also play out on both wings, will be looking to make an immediate mark with the Under-23s before setting his sights on the senior side. Toure is also on the brink of the national under-18s after making his debut for the Swiss Under-17s last year. He might not be the answer for this season but Benitez is busy building for the future and Toure is one who is well worth keeping an eye on.
