Newcastle are trying to sign Nice striker Alassane Plea, according to a Sky journalist, who has also claimed that two offers of £27million and £25million have been made for the 25-year-old.

Kaveh Solhekol made the claim on his personal Twitter page on Sunday night, but a section of Newcastle fans believe the amounts talked about rule them out of the running.

Plea joined Nice from Lyon in 2014 for just £450k, but his value has shot up on the back of an impressive season for the Ligue 1 side.

Plea scored 16 goals and added six assists in just 35 league games, and also scored four goals in eight Europa League ties.

That has seemingly put him on the radars of Premier League clubs, with four reportedly in the race, including Newcastle.

However, Newcastle fans know how much money Rafa Benitez has to spend and don’t believe they can keep up with offers of £25million and £27million.

Here are the best reactions to the news from a section of Newcastle fans:

OPINION:

Rafa Benitez has struggled to get transfers over the line in the last two windows, despite wanting to strengthen. A striker is desperately needed at Newcastle, but, like some Newcastle fans, we can’t see them being able to make a bid of £27million for a single player. Benitez couldn’t get a deal for Nicolai Jorgensen over the line, with Feyenoord reportedly wanting £20million, so the Newcastle fans who are scoffing at the prices mentioned here have probably got it spot on. One Newcastle fan said that they would come in with a £15million bid to say they’d tried, while another said the £25million was probably from newcastle after they heard the £27million bid had been lodged.
