Some Newcastle fans on social media shared that they were far from excited over the prospect of their club being keen to sign Aston Villa forward Jonathan Kodjia.

It was claimed by the Express & Star on Wednesday that the Magpies were eyeing up a move for the 28-year-old attacker as he could be a cheaper option to pursue instead of West Bromwich Albion’s Salomon Rondon.

Several Magpies fans took to Twitter to squash the idea that Kodjia would be a good signing for the club with one stating that the desire to sign the player summed up the club’s ambition.

Nothing But Newcastle has rounded up a selection of tweets by Magpies fans about the club’s reported pursuit of Kodjia:

OPINION

It would be a bizarre move for the Magpies to make if they end up signing Kodjia from Aston Villa anytime soon. The forward, who currently earns £35,000-a-week (Source:Mirror) only managed one goal in his 15 Championship outings last season and struggled with injuries. While it’s true that Kodjia was a prolific force in England’s second-tier in his 2016/17 campaign as he scored 19 league goals, that doesn’t mean he’d excel in the Premier League. If the player was coming off the back of a clinical season then it may be worth taking advantage of Aston Villa’s financial issues to get him, but he is coming off a terrible campaign. Kodjia would not only have to rediscover his previously lethal form in front of goal if signed at the Magpies, he’d have to quickly adapt to playing at a higher level.
