Newcastle United are being heavily linked with Juventus enforcer Stefano Sturaro as claims emerge of a follow-up bid, and some fans have taken to Twitter to react unenthusiastically to the news.
Italian site Tuttomercatoweb report that the Magpies are set to return with an improved bid for the 25-year-old following their opening offer of £11.5million being rejected by the Serie A champions.
Goal in Italy claim that Juventus are holding out for £17.7million for the midfield enforcer, reporting that ‘decisive contacts’ had been made between the two clubs.
Italian journalist Giulia Stronati has elsewhere claimed that the Magpies have already submitted a new bid totalling £12.4million for the Italy international.

Not sure what to make of all this Sturaro gossip. Juventus fans seem to despise him, and can’t wait to see the back of him.. #NUFC

OPINION
It is fair to say that Newcastle fans are not happy with the club for their lack of progress in the transfer window so far this summer. The Magpies are yet to make a bid on any player, with manager Rafa Benitez set to have to dip into the bargain market once again. Sturaro looks like he could be a good signing at a certain price, but the £17.7million that Juventus are said to be holding out for looks to be a prohibitive price tag. There is little chance of Newcastle doing business at that level, and that could jeopardise any deal if they refuse to budge.
