Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback is reportedly reluctant to leave the club due to his high wages, and fans have taken to Twitter to react to the update.

The 28-year-old has been on the fringes at St. James’ Park for a whole year now, with manager Rafa Benitez informing him last summer that he was not part of his first-team plans.

Colback then failed to find a loan offer that was satisfactory to him, and ended up rotting in the reserves for the first half of the season, collecting his £40,000-a-week wages.

The central midfielder eventually agreed a loan spell at Nottingham Forest in January, going on to make 16 appearances for the club before that stint came to an end in May.

The Chronicle now report that Colback is still reluctant to leave the club despite him having no first-team prospects on Tyneside, with his £40,000-a-week deal still having one more year to run.

It is said that Forest and some other Championship clubs are chasing Colback, but he will wait until a reasonable offer has been tabled before agreeing an exit, with Newcastle ready to resort to another loan deal if a permanent move does not materialise.

Newcastle fans have now reacted to the news on Twitter, with many seemingly sympathetic of Colback’s situation, while others are more critical of the midfielder.
