Newcastle United and Southampton are preparing to bid for Club Brugge winger Anthony Limbombe, according to trusted HLN journalist Tomas Taecke.

Taecke of Belgian newspaper HLN shared via his personal Twitter account that Limbombe’s departure from Brugge was a foregone conclusion for the player and that he wanted a move to the Bundesliga.

However the reliable journalist then added that the Magpies were preparing an offer for the 23-year-old winger, who can play on either flank, with Premier League rivals Huddersfield Town having already bid 15million euros (£13.1million) for him.

Taecke then added in his article for HLN that the Magpies and the Saints were planning on making their bids for Limbombe shortly as both teams were due to make them this week.

Good Move for Newcastle United?

It’s a mixed bag, a potential move for the 23-year-old wing king would take up way too much of their budget to be a good bit of business.

If the Terriers are bidding anywhere near the amount that Taecke claims then the Magpies will have to pull out of this race before they’ve even entered it.

However transfer fee concerns aside Limbombe would be a fantastic recruit this summer if the Magpies were able to welcome him to the club.

The 23-year-old is an attack-minded player who is always trying his luck from distance by blasting powerful shots at goal while also being capable of whipping in some dangerous crosses into the box.

Likely to happen?

Unfortunately not.

It may be a forgone conclusion that Limbombe will leave his current club but he clearly has his heart set on moving to Germany.

Taecke states that Schalke 04 and RB Leipzig are keen on signing the 23-year-old and they will clearly be the favourites to win the race for his services if they lodge a bid.

The Magpies would also have a hard time seeing off Ligue 1 side Marseille’s interest in the winger if they join the race like the trusted journalist suggested and that’s before the club consider the competition they have from within the Premier League for his signature.

It seems that Rafa Benitez will have to the pull the plug on this pursuit before it has even begun and should simply not waste his time bidding for the winger this week.
