Newcastle United have enquired about Swansea City midfielder Roque Mesa’s current situation, according to Sevilla.abc.

The Spanish website state that the Magpies are one of the teams that have been in contact to ask about the Spanish midfield maestro’s current availability.

Sevilla.abc report that Mesa has received many proposals from Spain and England before sharing comments that his agent has made about the interest in him.

“There is someone in the Premier who knows him well. There are European coaches, from Serbia, who know what they can give,” said Mesa’s agent, Luis Alonso (according to Football-Espana) about the interest in him.

“Roque only wants to hear about Sevilla. Already decided. We are waiting for everything to close, but we will have to wait until it is signed. Sevilla has also told us that he wants us to stay and we are here. When two love each other there are no problems, he reflected. ”

Good move for Newcastle?

It’s more bizarre than it is good.

Mesa made eleven Premier League appearances for the Swans in the 2017/18 campaign before being loaned out to Sevilla for the season.

The 29-year-old is now back at the Liberty Stadium but clearly has his heart set on joining Sevilla, according to his agent, after featuring seven times for them in their latest La Liga campaign.

Rafa Benitez does need to add another central midfielder to his squad but Mesa would be an odd choice as it didn’t exactly go well for him in the Premier League last season.

Likely to happen?

Sevilla.abc suggest that Fulham, Villarreal and the Magpies are all trying to stop Mesa going to Sevilla in order to join them instead.

However the agent seems pretty confident that his client is on his way to Sevilla and won’t entertain offers from other clubs at this stage.

Whether the Swans’ determination to get as much money as possible for their players following their relegation to the Championship could stop a move to Sevilla happening remains to be seen.

Therefore there is the tiniest chance Mesa could be on his way to St James Park if this report is anywhere near accurate about the Magpies’ interest.
