Newcastle United supporters took to social media to encourage Stoke City’s pursuit of attacker Dwight Gayle.
The Daily Mirror reported that new Potters manager Gary Rowett wanted to splash the cash on improving his club’s strike force and had set his sights on Gayle and Wolves forward Benik Afobe.
The national newspaper claimed that Rowett was pushing for those two striking options to be signed as he wants proven Championship performers at the club.
Gayle, as stated by the Mirror’s report, cost the Magpies £10million in 2016 and went on to score 23 goals in his debut season at the club to help them win promotion from England’s second-tier.
The 27-year-old forward, who is on a weekly wage of £40,000 at St James Park (Source: Spotrac), only managed to grab six goals in his 38 appearances across all competitions in his latest campaign.
Upon hearing that the Potters wanted to splash the cash and had Gayle in their thoughts, Magpies fans seemed willing to let him go for the right price.
One supporter argued that they wanted a fee above £15million for his services while another simply asked the Potters to take him as he couldn’t bare to watch him anymore.

Swap deal with Shaqiri and then sign Bas Dost for free. That's two players in with no outflow of cash.

Gayle isn't Premier League quality unfortunately. If we get £15m+ for him then that's a good price, our number 9 needs to be a consistent goal scorer who'll be able to get into double figures at least every season.

Defintely a good sale for the right price.
Shaquiri the other way would be ideal but if not then th funds would be useful for a Premier League class striker!!— Andy Withers (@CornishGeordie9) June 12, 2018
