Newcastle United are interested in signing Middlesbrough’s teen sensation Bilal Brahimi, according Foot Mercato.

The French outlet state that the Magpies along with Liverpool, Everton, Real Betis and Valencia are all following the progress of the 18-year-old left-winger after an impressive campaign in Boro’s youth system.

Foot Mercato report that after netting eight goals, while registering 14 assists, in his 25 appearances made across U-18s and U-23s level, the exciting winger has captured the attention of several clubs.

Good move for Newcastle?

Yes.

Rafa Benitez’s desire to rejuvenate the Magpies’ youth system has been well documented and signing a talent who is shining bright at a local rival could kick start his plans.

While the hunt for Brahimi’s services may be in the early stages as everyone is just admiring his statistics from afar currently, the Magpies would do well to secure his services as they probably have the edge in the race for him.

The winger, who can dazzle on either flank as well as play as a centre-forward, is currently shining bright in North East England and a move to a club nearby might be more tempting than hoping on a plane or packing his bags to go to Liverpool.

If the Magpies secure this attacking talent with no hassle or fuss, there’s no word on his contract length, it could be a signing that delivers for them in the future.

Likely to happen?

It seems to be the very early stages as all the clubs listed as being keen are yet to swoop in, yet the Magpies should be the frontrunners even though the race for him is packed.

While the 18-year-old may have already boldly moved to England from Portuguese side Leixos in order to progress in his career, he might not be keen to make such a drastic move across, or out of, the country just yet.

However as the exciting teen sensation’s current contract situation isn’t know, it’s hard to know if acquiring the player’s services would be a quest worth undertaking for Benitez’s team.

Especially as improving the first-team with new recruits should remain the club’s main priority for the foreseeable future as there are a lot of new arrivals that need to be welcomed to St James Park.
