Newcastle United fans on social media were thrilled at reportedly being in the race to sign Spartak Moscow attacker Quincy Promes.
The Southern Daily Echo reported on Saturday that the Magpies were battling Everton and Southampton to sign the winger who scored 21 goals in 38 games during the 2017/18 season.
The prolific Promes, who can feature on either wing as well as a centre-forward, had Magpies supporters on Twitter excited by the prospect of him arriving at St James Park this summer.
One fan claimed that he would be the dream as he was like a signing the club used to make, while another stated that signing the speedy 26-year-old would really show that the club wanted to compete.
However amongst all the excitement and buzz from being linked to the winger, several supporters when heaping praising on Promes revealed that they just couldn’t imagine their club splashing the necessary cash to get him.
There was one who claimed there was no chance that this was legit news, however it’s worthy noting this isn’t the first time in this window that Rafa Benitez’s team have been linked with a move for him.
Journalist Alan Moore claimed earlier in May, via Back Page Football, that the Magpies had made contact over a move for the pacey attacker.
Nothing But Newcastle have rounded up some of the best tweets about the club’s interest in Promes:
This would be the dream, this is the signings of old we would of made had Ashley not been here for the last decade. We won’t sign this lad

Even if the interest is real nothing will happen before the world cup which could definitely drive his price out of our range
