Newcastle and Townsend must reunite

OPINION

Newcastle United should look to reunite themselves with the services of Andros Townsend especially after Leicester City reportedly enquired about his services.

The Daily Mail stated on Tuesday that the Foxes had lodged an enquiry for the Crystal Palace winger and if there’s any chance he’s on the move, he needs to be welcomed back to St James Park.

With Townsend still being only 26-years-old the exciting winger would be a fantastic signing that would instantly bolster the Magpies’ current squad and boost supporters’ morale.

The English wing king featured regularly for Roy Hodgson’s side in the 2017/18 campaign, scoring two goals, while creating nine in his 39 outings across all competitions.

Townsend is a proven Premier League talent and would easily be able to become a regular fixture of Rafa Benitez’s side as the club need a winger exactly like him currently.

The 26-year-old previously played for the Magpies at the tail-end of the 2015/16 season as he joined in January from Tottenham before being sold when the club suffered relegation from England’s top-flight once all was said and done.

However despite only spending a brief time at St James Park, he took the club by storm as he grabbed four goals and registered two assists in 13 appearances to try and save the club from dropping into the Championship.

While he was unable to stop relegation occurring it was clear at the time that if the Magpies would have survived, Townsend would have been a key player for the team in the Premier League.

There is clearly unfinished business for the Magpies and Townsend as fans only got to be wowed by the winger’s ability for a brief amount of time and both would no doubt like to see it proven that it was no fluke.

Therefore the Magpies must swoop for the Premier League wing king who once took the club by storm with his performances as it’s clear he is capable of doing even better in a second spell with the club.
