Newcastle United are believed to be willing to take an offer in the region of £45million for defender Jamaal Lascelles with Everton, Chelsea and Tottenham showing an interest, according to the London Evening Standard.

The newspaper shared that Everton want to agree a deal with the Magpies for their prize asset before the World Cup but are only at this stage plotting to make a £30million bid for his services.

London Evening Standard report that even though the Magpies have constantly insisted they don’t want to sell Lascelles their stance could soften if someone meets their valuation as it would help boost Rafa Benitez’s transfer kitty.

OPINION

According to the London-based newspaper Tottenham and Chelsea are also circling the defender which makes this report very worrying to read. While the Toffees have the cash to splash also, Spurs and the Blues are more tempting clubs for Lascelles to jump to as they regularly compete for a place in the Premier League’s top-six positions. Also it seems Marco Silva’s new side would have to increase their currently planned offer by £15million, which isn’t exactly pocket change. This could see them turn their attentions to other transfer targets and leave Lascelles happily playing at St James Park for at least another season. Hopefully £45million, which is a huge price tag to slap on the defender, proves to be enough of a deterrent to keep other clubs from trying to poach Lascelles as the best case scenario would be him staying at the Magpies. The 24-year-old fan favourite submitted several dominating performances during his 35 outings in his 2017/18 campaign and it’s hard to know how Benitez’s side would cope without him.
