Newcastle United are ready to bin defender Javier Manquillo this summer with the club ready to listen to offers for the 24-year-old, according to the Chronicle.

The local newspaper claim that while the Magpies are set to bin the right-back, who played mostly on the left-hand side in his most recent campaign, they still want to strengthen that position at the club.

The Chronicle report that due to this the club are believed to have entered the race for Fulham’s pacey right-back Ryan Fredericks who is currently set to be available on a free transfer as his contract at the end of June.

Good move for Newcastle United?

While Manquillo’s sale won’t see a heap load of money coming in the door, selling one right-back who has failed to impress, to bring in a superb one on a free would be excellent business.

Fredericks racked up nine assists in 48 appearances for Fulham in the 2017/18 season to help them win promotion through the play-offs and the speed demon would easily tear it up at St James Park.

The right-back has all the skills in his locker to overtake current first-choice DeAndre Yedlin in the club’s pecking order and make the position of right-back his own at the club in a short amount of time.

Likely to happen?

As Fulham’s Premier League status has just recently been confirmed, it’s still possible that Fredericks will put pen to paper on new deal to stop him being a freebie for any other club this summer.

If this ends up being the case the 25-year-old clearly would have made his intentions known and the Magpies should then move on to pursuing other targets.

While a deal may be on the cards for the Fulham defender right now, hopefully Rafa Benitez’s has a back-up option ready to swoop for.

Although one thing is for certain, the Magpies really should proceed with plans to get rid of Manquillo.
