Leeds United are interested in signing Karl Darlow from Newcastle United this summer, according to the Chronicle.

The regional newspaper claim Magpies manager Rafael Benitez is willing to offload the 27-year-old goalkeeper after coming close to selling him last summer.

The Chronicle report Darlow will soon slip further down the keeper pecking order at St James’ Park as the club prepare to finalise the capture of Martin Dubravka on a permanent deal.

OPINION

With Newcastle about to land Dubravka, they will soon be so well stocked for goalkeepers Darlow will have no choice but to leave if he wants to play regularly, in what is a major boost to his suitors. The Premier League outfit already have Rob Elliot and Freddie Woodman as alternative options to soon-to-be-signed Dubravka, and Darlow faces the prospect of being fourth-choice keeper if he stays. There is said to be plenty of interest from Championship clubs in the 6ft 2in shot-stopper, including Leeds and Swansea City. Little wonder. Darlow has an excellent record in England’s second tier, both during Newcastle’s promotion campaign and at ex-club Nottingham Forest, where he played 111 times before his 2014 transfer to the north-east. Leeds are certainly in the market for a new keeper as they prepare to offload Felix Wiedwald and Andy Lonergan after wretched 2017-18 campaigns in which Bailey Peacock-Farrell emerged from the youth ranks to end the season as the number one. The youngster would face a major battle for his starting place if Darlow was signed.
