Newcastle United and Aleksandar Mitrovic would both prefer to resolve his future after the World Cup, according to the Chronicle.

According to the local newspaper, the powerhouse forward’s chance of moving to a very keen Fulham may be increased after the Cottagers won the play-off final but that won’t speed up his exit.

The Chronicle claim that Mitrovic is likely to wait until after he represents Serbia to decide his future while the Magpies are holding out hope that his performance at the famous tournament will drive his price up even higher.

It is believed that Rafa Benitez wants to sell the forward this summer, despite him scoring 12 goals while on loan at Fulham in the 2017/18 season, and will demand £15million-£20million from the club willing to pay for him.

While it would be nice for Fulham to quickly stump up the cash so the Magpies can push on with their own transfer business, the World Cup could dramatically effect Mitrovic’s price in a good way. If the 23-year-old is able to be as clinical in Russia as he was in London, who knows how much his sale could bring into the club. It also makes sense that the powerhouse forward just wants to focus on doing well for his nation as he will be a star player for Serbia this summer. Whether the Magpies are able to stick to their preferred timeframe to resolve his future is to be seen, as the Cottagers will be eager to tie him down to them. The Chronicle’s report names Marseille, Bordeaux, Anderlecht, Brighton and Hove Albion, and Wolverhampton Wanderers as all being clubs that could make a move for the forward, so it’s not like the Magpies won’t have options if Fulham opt to look elsewhere. However after helping their promotion cause so much, it’s doubtful that the Cottagers will be put off by waiting.
