Newcastle United are reportedly in the hunt to sign West Bromwich Albion centre-back Craig Dawson, and fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news.

As reported by the Daily Mail, the Magpies are one of several teams interested in the 28-year-old, who is set to move on this summer after the Baggies’ relegation was confirmed on Tuesday.

Newcastle are said to be plotting a move for Dawson, who is rated around £15million by West Brom, with Scottish Premiership champions Celtic also linked.

Dawson has made 31 appearances for West Brom this season, scoring two goals in the process, and is set to leave the club after eight years service.

The 28-year-old is a former England youth international, and has made 179 appearances for the Baggies since joining from Rochdale in 2011.

Newcastle fans have now taken to Twitter to react to the club’s reported interest, with supporters all saying that Dawson did not represent an improvement on their current defensive options.

Many instead called for the club to secure the future of manager Rafa Benitez before being linked to players this summer, with the Spaniard yet to commit to a new deal at St. James’ Park.

Nothing but Newcastle have rounded up some of the best tweets:
