Newcastle United fell to a 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley on Wednesday night, but fans have taken to Twitter to rave about the display of midfielder Mohamed Diame.
The Magpies put in a much-improved display against Spurs following three disappointing losses in a row prior to the match, but lost out to a sumptuous second-half strike from Harry Kane.
Rafa Benitez’s men fashioned two of the best openings in the first 45 minutes, with Jonjo Shelvey rattling the post with a brilliant effort from a free-kick just outside the box.
Captain Jamaal Lascelles then forced a decent save out of Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, with his headed effort heading for the corner before the Frenchman’s intervention.
Tottenham took the lead five minutes after the break when Kane exchanged passes with Son Heung-Min before curling into the top corner first time from a tight space in the box.
Jacob Murphy should have equalised for the Magpies just minutes after coming on, but he fired over after a brilliant run down the left flank.
The Toon Army have now taken to Twitter to lavish praise on 30-year-old Diame, who put in another industrious performance alongside Shelvey in the middle of the park.
Nothing but Newcastle have rounded up some of the best tweets:

How good was Diame AGAIN? Lascelles and Lejeune outstanding. Ritchie working hard again and Perez trying his best. Can’t fault any of them

Don't know how we lost that. Great performance but got to take your chances. #nufc Mo Diame an absolute standout.

Mo Diame with the most dribbles of anyone on the pitch, along with the most tackles by far (8 – 5 more than any Spurs player). Didn't deserve to be on the losing side.
Lascelles, Shelvey, Dubravka all very good too. Just can't seem to put it in the net…— allez les chapardeurs 🏴🏳️ (@ABientotTiote) May 9, 2018
Diame is the greatest midfielder in the Prem. And it's not even close.
