Newcastle United have performed exceptionally well in their return to the Premier League this season, surpassing expectations and allowing for a sense of optimism to sweep over St. James’ Park after a rollercoaster ride.

An upturn in form since the turn of the year has seen Newcastle battle to a mid-table position from their previous lowly spot of 18th, with a sequence of four consecutive victories last month helping to erase any danger of relegation.

However, results have slipped since, with the Magpies losing back-to-back matches 1-0 against Everton and West Brom, leaving Rafael Benitez with work to do heading into the final three matches of the campaign – and he’s now revealed his end of season target.

Quoted by The Chronicle, the experienced Spaniard said:

“We have three games to play and we must do better. The target was to stay up but if we can stay in the top 10 or finish ninth it will be better. But that’s something that we have to do on the pitch and not in the media.”

Newcastle face a difficult finale to their season, clashing with Watford, Tottenham and Chelsea.
