OPINION

Ciaran Clark must be made a victim of Rafa Benitez’s exciting ambitions for Newcastle United as the 28-year-old is not good enough to be part of the plans.

The 6ft 1in tall defender, is currently suffering a knee injury as confirmed by the Magpies’ official website, and is aiming to be at full fitness in time for next season.

However in reality the Magpies should be wishing him back to health so they can cash-in on him in the summer window, as they should be able to get a respectable fee for his services.

Clark made 20 appearances for Rafa Benitez side in the recently concluded season, but saw himself go from guaranteed starter to bench warmer during the campaign.

The centre-back is always a dependable option, like a comfort blanket available when all hope is lost, but the Magpies need a higher quality of performer if they are to move on with Rafa’s revolution.

Benitez wants to be regularly featuring in the Premier League’s top 10, while also potentially competing for the League Cup, FA Cup and the Europa League, which he was quoted as confirming by the Chronicle.

Clark is more suited to helping a Premier League team achieve survival or helping a Championship team win promotion, he’s not up to helping his side reach Benitez’s lofty aims.

The centre-back, who earns £30,000-a-week, according to Silly Season, may have achieved prior glory with the Magpies as he helped them win the Championship title last season, but it doesn’t justify keeping him around.

Therefore for the Rafa revolution to truly begin, the currently crocked Clark must be made a victim of it as soon as possible by being shown the exit door.
