Newcastle United are not expected to receive their next portion of Premier League TV money for almost two months, according to the Chronicle.

The local newspaper claim that this has caused Rafa Benitez to fear that he will have to sell before he can buy this summer as the TV money not coming straight away will have a direct effect.

The Chronicle report that Benitez is growing exasperated with the whole process, as due to his future still not being resolved it’s causing him to be unable to forge ahead with the pursuit of his transfer targets as it is.

OPINION

With the Magpies’ next lot of TV money not expected for almost two months, which takes us up to the penultimate week of July, Benitez is going to be sweating over getting business done. The transfer window is set to close earlier this year, ahead of the season starting as reported by the Manchester Evening News, with it due to shut on August 9th rather than August 31st. This means the major transfer budget issue could see Benitez have to work hard to clear deadwood from his squad for funds, for the majority of the summer window. That’s even if the money is on time, if there’s any form of delay to the payment coming through, then it could see the Magpies’ potential deals pushed even closer to the wire. While the major budget issue could be avoided if Benitez successfully secures player’s exits quickly, there are not many players who the manager would want to get rid of, that would rake in enough money to dramatically affect his budget in a positive way.
