Newcastle United are interested in signing defender Kasim Nuhu from Young Boys, according to Blick.

The Swiss newspaper claims that the Magpies are keen on the 22-year-old centre-back, who has just helped his side win the top-flight league title in Switzerland.

It is understood that Rafael Benitez’s team are admires of the 6ft 3in powerhouse and that he is valued at around £7.5million

Good move for Newcastle?

Nuhu is a no-nonsense defender that has been integral to Young Boys’ title triumph this campaign and has racked up 43 appearances across all competitions.

He is a highly-rated defender that has experience in the Europa League and has also been capped at international level by Ghana.

Newcastle could do with adding an extra player in the heart of defence next season to compete with starting pair Jamaal Lascelles and Florian Lejeune.

Nuhu is an exciting prospect with a lot of potential, but there should be caution if they were to fork out a large seven-figure sum to sign a player that could find it a big step up in the Premier League.

However, he certainly has the physical presence and is one of several players in-demand from Young Boys after their title-winning season.

Likely to happen?

Nuhu is believed to be on Newcastle’s transfer radar at present, but right now it seems like all potential moves are on hold until Rafael Benitez’s future is secure.

It remains to be seen if the Magpies would be willing to register a formal bid for him, but they know they will have to cough up a decent sum for the gigantic defender.
