Newcastle celebrity supporter and singer James Bay believes that there needs to be changes made in the way operations are dealt with at St James’ Park.
The Magpies fan has aimed a dig at the club’s hierarchy for the way things are run, with owner Mike Ashley already an unpopular figure with the Toon faithful.
However, he insists that manager Rafael Benitez is absolutely crucial moving forward and hopes he has a long-term future.
The Chronicle has reported that the Spanish boss has revealed he has no plans to leave this summer and that managing director Lee Charnley will be taking a backseat role to let Benitez handle transfer deadlines with a more hands-on approach.
“I like the drama, recently we are back in a better spot and there is definitely some improvements that need to be made moving forward at the club and the way that it’s run,” Bay told talkSPORT, as cited by their official Twitter account.
“As long as we can hold onto the wonderful Rafael Benitez and he can work his magic further.”

There is arguably not a more loved manager in the Premier League right now than Benitez at Newcastle and that is why giving him everything he wants is a no-brainer. The highly experienced senior man has all the tools to drive the club further forward in the coming years and has just managed to pioneer a brilliant 10th-placed finish in the Premier League with limited resources. It seems like Benitez is going to get a lot more power over the summer and that is certainly a good way to keep him happy, where he can improve the squad where he views fit. A potential Newcastle takeover has gone stale recently and supporters would love the club to be under new ownership, but for now they can at least be happy they appear to have managed to convince Benitez to stay with them. He only has one year remaining on his existing deal and that is the lingering issue surrounding him at present.
