Newcastle United need to ensure they oversee a complete overhaul of their options in goal over the summer and can do without spending shedloads of money.

The Magpies need to bin both senior goalkeepers Rob Elliot and Karl Darlow, who have both shown during their time at St James’ Park their vulnerabilities.

Manager Rafael Benitez should be aiming to have two top-class options competing for the number one spot and they have already moved for one.

The Shields Gazette reports that the Premier League outfit are in talks with Sparta Prague about turning Martin Dubravka’s loan move into a permanent one.

However, Newcastle should look to bring in another option and must plot to hijack Leeds’ reported interest in Angus Gunn at Manchester City.

The Yorkshire Evening Post reports that Championship outfit Leeds are in the hunt to sign the 22-year-old on loan, but Benitez need to intervene quickly and try bring him to St James’ Park.

Gunn is currently on the books at Premier League giants Man City and Newcastle should offer him the chance of Premier League football next season.

The 6ft 4in colossus could definitely provide Dubravka with stiff competition and top-flight football would be the next logical step for his development.

He is an excellent shot-stopper that was a standout at Norwich this season, keeping 16 clean sheets in 51 appearances across all competitions.

Gunn has been tipped by many to become England’s future number one and Newcastle would definitely benefit from having him on loan for the 2018/19 campaign.
