Anderlecht hope to finalise a deal for Newcastle United goalkeeper Matz Sels by Monday, according to DH.

The Belgian newspaper report that Anderlecht will step up their efforts to reach a permanent agreement for Sels, with the club also chasing a deal for Chancel Mbemba.

DH claim that Newcastle however are waiting to hear if Sels has made the final 23-man squad for Belgium, which may see them raise their asking price for the 26-year-old.

Sels, who stands at 6ft 2in [Transfermarkt], spent this season on loan at the Belgian club.

Good move for Newcastle United?

Sels has been on the verge of an exit for a while now, with his Newcastle career never having taken off since a £6million move from Gent in 2016.

The goalkeeper has however had a renaissance in Belgium this season on loan at Anderlecht, and it is no surprise that the Belgian club want to retain him permanently.

Newcastle seem to have decided that Sels is not good enough for the Premier League, and therefore an exit is a good move for all parties.

Likely to happen?

It looks like this one is all but done, although Newcastle waiting for the Belgian squad announcement may prolong proceedings slightly.

If Sels is named in the squad then the Magpies may raise their asking price, but surely not by much, and a deal should be struck soon after that.

A deal for Mbemba on the other hand looks harder to complete, with Hoffenheim reportedly joining the chase for the 23-year-old.
