Three key Newcastle players that must step up their performance against West Brom

|

Deandre Yedlin

There has been a tangible improvement in the defensive aspect of Yedlin’s game since the turn of the year with the United States international stringing together some solid performance on the right side of a settled back-four.

But it was a lapse in judgement from Yedlin that ultimately proved costly for Newcastle against Everton as he fatally misjudged the flight of Yannick Bolasie’s deep cross from the left, allowing the ball to reach eventual goalscorer Theo Walcott, whose first touch cannoned off the legs of the United defender who had completely lost sight of the player he was supposed to be marking.

It was a mistake that once again summoned doubts about his suitability to fulfil the right-back on a permanent, long-term basis – flames Yedlin can fan away with a tighter defensive display against West Brom, especially with Benitez expected to begin changing his starting XI and introducing some fringe players back into the fold this weekend.
