Newcastle United have pushed themselves towards Premier League safety with a flurry of victories, now sitting ten points above the relegation zone.

The Magpies are on the brink of retaining their top-flight status for another campaign but Rafael Benitez still has work to do, with the Spaniard set to eye plenty of recruits this summer to rejuvenate his side for next year.

Newcastle are one of the clubs keen on signing young Sheffield Wednesday striker George Hirst but the Magpies are poised to miss out, with the England youth international snubbing the interest from Benitez’s side.

Hirst looked set to sign for Leicester City but a late u-turn reported by The People states he’s now poised to join Manchester United, leaving the Foxes, along with Newcastle and other interested parties, left disappointed.

19-year-old Hirst has made just one Championship appearance for the Owls since rising through the academy and has rejected the offers of a new contract at Hillsborough, despite having the support of manager Jos Luhukay.
