Newcastle United fans will have been pleased by reports over the weekend that suggested a potential takeover from Amanda Staveley and PCP is back on, although the latest developments suggest a stumbling block.

The Shields Gazette states that Mike Ashley will revise his asking price for Newcastle after the club pushed away from the relegation zone, having previously been prepared to accept an offer in the region of £300m whilst the Magpies’ Premier League status is in jeopardy.

However, a three-match winning run from Rafael Benitez’s side has pushed the Tyneside outfit ten-points clear of the relegation zone and on the brink of retaining their top-flight status, making the prospect of owning Newcastle even more appealing.

On top of that, new multi-billion pound TV deals have been agreed since Ashley initially put the club on the market back in October and he’ll want any price to reflect the very different position that Newcastle find themselves in.
