Newcastle United are on the brink of retaining their Premier League status after extending their winning run with a 2-1 victory against Leicester City.

The result marked three consecutive wins for Rafael Benitez’s side, pushing the Magpies ten points clear of the relegation zone and continuing a fine upturn in form that has been present since the end of the January window.

Newcastle’s recruits during the mid-season have certainly provided a boost, with both Martin Dubravka and Kenedy catching the eye during their loan spells, and the latter earned praise from BBC pundit Danny Murphy after the win against the Foxes.

Speaking on Match of the Day, he said:

“He has given them good energy and freshened things up. Over the last month Newcastle have actually improved a lot. But he has got good delivery from set plays, he has got good energy, he goes at people, he is confident in the way he plays, he tries things.”

“He just gave them a lift at a time when they were flat. Getting a couple of wins always helps as well. The likes of Shelvey and Perez are playing with a bit more freedom.”

“Chelsea bought him for a reason. Obviously there have been question marks regarding his application and mentality. But for Newcastle in recent weeks he has been putting in some really good performances. I like his intent and he just gives them something different.”

It remains to be seen whether Kenedy will make his move to St. James’ Park permanent this summer but Newcastle are understood to be keen on a deal.
