Newcastle United face a stern challenge to secure the services of a prime striking target, as another Premier League rival have joined the hunt.

The Sun names West Ham as the third side within England’s top-flight to express an interest in 19-goal OGC Nice striker Alassane Plea, joining the Magpies and Everton in the hunt for his signature.

Plea has excelled with the French side this season and a fee of around £25m will be required to lure him away from the French Riviera but the former France U21 international could be tempted into a move, with Nice failing to build upon their impressive displays last season.

The French side played in the Europa League this term after finishing third in Ligue 1 last season, with Plea scoring four goals in eight continental appearances, but sit sixth in the standings this term and face a stern battle to secure the chance of playing in Europe again next season.

Nice’s squad could be ravaged this summer, with the likes of Mario Balotelli and manager Lucian Favre linked with a departure.
