Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez is preparing for a second campaign in the Premier League, as the Magpies are on the brink of retaining their top-flight status.

Major investment is expected this summer to help bolster the Magpies’ ranks and a new striker is likely to be very close to the top of Benitez’s short-list for the transfer window, as the Tyneside outfit have struggled for consistency in front of goal this season.

Italian outlet CalcioMercato state Newcastle are one of three Premier League sides interested in bringing OGC Nice striker Alassane Plea to English football, rivalling Everton and Brighton in the market for the uncapped French striker.

Valued at £13m by TransferMarktPlea could be one of many to leave the French Riviera this summer after a campaign that has seen Nice struggle to build upon last year’s successes, where they finished third in Ligue 1 behind champions Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain.

With 17 goals across all competitions this season, Plea would be a significant addition for Newcastle and his price-tag is certainly affordable, although the interest from others could see his value rise.
